Moveable Bridges

Moveable bridges open to allow boats that are taller than the bridge to navigate the waterway. There are numerous types of moveable bridges: bascule or drawbridges, swing span bridges, and lift bridges. Bascule bridges open in the center. They pivot similar to a "see saw". Swing span bridges rotate on a center column. Lift bridges move vertically to allow boats and ships to pass under the bridge.
